Gossip: a poem by an anonymous author

Gossip Poem quote

Drop a Word (aka: Mean Girls)

Technically its not gossip if

Drop a Word

(Aka: Mean Girls)

I drop a word in your ear

About that person, the one I secretly loathe

Something ‘they say’, plucked from the grapevine

(A fact? A fiction? Really, who’s to know?)

I didn’t hear it from the horse’s mouth

It is you see, a shocking thing

But apparently, (although I can’t say one hundred percent for sure)

It has a totally truthful ring

Of course I didn’t ask the ‘horse’, (the person)

For their side of the story

That would require talking, which could be awkward

And I’m really not up for that, (so sorry!)

Though I wasn’t there, and I didn’t see it

I swear it has been verified

(By all my friends, my family,

And by everyone else who’s on my side)

A friend of a friend did ask the ‘horse’, (the person), you know

And although they explained this and that

The friend of a friend reported that what was said was open to interpretation

(The truth is fluid – and that’s a factual fact!)

I know I really shouldn’t gossip

Gossip leaves such a nasty taste!

But, I’m really concerned about this person

(Concerned that they should be put firmly back in their place!)

So as much as it pains me

I must tell you all about it – just you, just in case

(In case that person thought they could share

My friends, my spotlight – in general – my space!)

I won’t say much, just a word, just a look

(I know you’ll be begging me for more!

Once a word is dropped, it gains momentum,

It springs to life with a roar!)

So I drop a word in your ear

(Hoping it travels to your tongue)

I smile at your ‘No! Really?’ in that disapproving tone. You lean forward, a hushed question on your lips

Yep. My work here is done

Poetry Is words that breathe

On Sunny Days

Black - Mick with windmills 09.10.2010

On Sunny Days

It must be said, has to be confessed

It’s on sunny days that I love the lowlands best

The unending brilliant green where cream cows graze

Off in the distance hanging, the downy soft of a misty haze

Standing gazing, the weathered gnomes of yesteryear

Faces lifted to wherever the fickle wind may steer

Thatched coats browning as they warm in the gentle sun

Like creatures from the damp earth, freshly sprung

poppies amongst the green

Hundreds of little girls dressed in red, peeping

Through green curtains from the beds where they’ve been sleeping

Poppies playful amongst the nettles and the green

Smile and giggle, sing and dance, whenever they are seen

Beautiful flirting ladies curtsy to each other

Until they are plucked and taken to the ball by some ardent lover

Gowned in pinks and yellows and purples and every colour in between

Fields of tulips are amongst the loveliest sights ever seen

black happy flowers

Skies are kissed and left blushing pink

A beautiful canvas stretched as the stars fade and sink

A sleepy morning sun rises slowly to cover the rift

The early riser grateful to be given such a gift

black Windmill in the Mist

Hopping among the flower boxes with which every house is dressed

Little birds are busily feathering their nests

Stopping to trill and sing as they explore, never at rest

Geraniums and roses and daisies, against windows pressed

Shimmering leaves of white cloth catch a whispering breeze

As they float, bobbing across meadows like they were seas

Little boats with sails aloft rise above the green

Surreal and tranquil and ever serene

Canals are spun across landscapes like silver thread

An intricate maze, a spiders wandering web

Taking the boatman where ever he may choose

Along whose peaceful banks fishermen snooze

Through forests and meadows and down ambling lanes

Barrel two wheeled chariots with grandma frames

Along busy cobbled city streets he works and plays

The fiets is king of the kingdom, forever and always

black john keats summer days

The forests are green in the month of June

The scent of the sea drifts beckoning over the dunes

Giant seagulls call in ancient language to their young

Songs that for a millennia have been sung

Little princes build their castles down on the sand

Maidens bathe and minstrels play, while lovers stroll hand in hand

Here tired souls come to let go and fly free

Down by the waters of the ever changing, ever rolling, sea

black 12.And the sun is going down slowly

Waves crashing along the shore

The late setting sun proclaims the summer once more

Fire descends, burning into the sea

And the winds of change are set tumbling free

Autumn is a magnificent scene as old leaves fall

Their scent fills the air as trees bare their all

Carpets laid down of orange and gold and red

The comforting rustling sound of joy at every tread

Warm and Cozy, so lazy at a summer days end

Companions with whom to laugh and share and lend

Tales are told as bread and bitterballen and pints of beer are sought

Here Gezellig is not just a word, it’s a life philosophy that’s taught

black DSC08297

But cold winter days can be gezellig too

Outside snow falling, covers and presents a clean, soft view

While inside a fire crackles and laughter fills a room

Wine and merry conversation making every cheek glow and bloom

Like a gleaming crystal chain of silver and grey

That some giant plucked from his neck and threw away

The canals are resplendent where frozen they lay

Echoing calls as skaters twirl and play

black 10 - Mick skating

Gentle rain soothes as it falls in gossamer sheets

Knocking gently at the windows through which it peeps

While inside candles burn flickering, long and low

And homes become havens of colour, warmth and repose

black Mick the guitar Man

But then when grey clouds clear and golden rays shine through

Suddenly the world outdoors looks fresh and new

Tulips flirt, birds sing, and old gnomes stand tall

And the sea keeps beat, playing along with it all

Sails unfurl, fishermen snore

As the webs of silver invite and entrance once more

Seagulls call soaring through skies of blue

And sunshine again turns green meadows to a brilliant hue

Such days make it impossible not to admit

So I have to give in, it’s too hard to resist

I have to confess, I have to say

I do love the lowlands just that bit more on sunny days

– for my lowlands guy… Mickey D

who makes everyday a sunny day for me ~

Tears We Never Shed

Tears quote for word press - skinny

Tears We Never Shed

Some tears we cry but never shed

We just bury them as deep as we can instead

Until the day the flood gates open

And we pour out all the grief that was never spoken

Grief for all that we’ve seen

For all the hurt

For all of what could’ve been

Pushed down and repressed in our crying heart

Till it over flows and finally bursts apart

On that day we spell it out

Give voice to the woe

Put it where it deserves to be

Where it needs to go

Sometimes it’s the deepest hurts

The ones we can’t do anything about

That we refuse to look at

We refuse to feel

To cry

To shout

But as we say the words and cry the tears

As we feel the pain

We shed our fears

With nothing more to hold inside

We can finally breathe

We feel a new wind on our face

Give sorrow a reprieve

Like a candle glowing in the dark

Like the day that follows night

We will find the way again

We will find the light

Then we can look back

In memory and not in pain

Look back with wisdom at times that will never come again

The hurt dissipates once all the tears are gone

And rainbow skies appear

So bright

So clear

And your heart moves on

The Cats of Montmartre

Meow Meow

The Cats of Montmartre

Are on the Prowl

Hissing and spitting

Claws are bared

Arrogantly stalking

Beware Beware

What’s yours is theirs

They have decided

Silently they pounce

So fast you just can’t fight it

Purring and preening

They display their prey

Bloodied and bleeding

As they prance away

Later they sit daintily

Licking their claws

Sheathing those weapons

In silky paws

It’s the spotlight they want

The attention they crave

So they must attack

Whatever stands in their way

Though seeming to sleep

They are ever alert

For any intrusion

On territory and turf

Cats are selfish

Everything is all about them

What they want, they get

It’s not if, it’s when

They don’t change

Don’t lose their claws

They shine and sharpen

They keep them warm

So if there’s a tasty dish

Or warm spot in the sun

You better take care

You better run

A Survivors Tale

It was the silence quote

A Survivors Tale

Sometimes I think I’m over it

I am sure I’m in repair

But then something stirs and shows me

The old wounds still fester

The old wounds are all still there

Memories slink in hidden corners

Ghost ships rising from silty graves

Nightmares resurrected

And it’s me they come to torture

It’s me they still enslave

You have no right! I scream

You have no right! I rage

You took your pound of flesh

Before I put flame to your sails

Before I broke free from your deep, dark cage

I fight you – still you come

I hate you – still you stay

Time after time I slay you

Why won’t you be done?

Why won’t you die where you lay?

I have my armor

I have my shield

Love is mine, mine forever

I know who I am

I know what is and isn’t real

But still you rise

Still you cut me

You pursue me like hound and hare

You take my truth and give me lies

You take my fear and gut me

I do not deserve this

I do not deserve to bleed

I was their scapegoat

They left me alone, they tied me up

They let the vultures feed

Charm and fire and whispers

Agendas and politics and pretence

Feathers caught in a whirlwind

Blown to kingdom come

Scattered to where there can be no defense

Faces of flint and backs of stone

Turned as one, turned to go

Bargains struck, deals made

Pouring oil on my burning pain

Fanning the flames of my woe

Where the balm and binding?

Where the healing hand?

Where the staff and crook?

Where the voice of reason?

Where the firm place to stand?

Nowhere the comfort and brace

Nowhere the wisdom

Nowhere the faith

Nowhere the all embracing grace

Those memories are the knives that cut

The stinging truths that make me sick

That is where the nightmares linger

Those cuts were deep

Those cuts still drip

So the Ghosts are going to win a while

Sunken ships shall rise and sail

And slinking memories will find me

Where the wounds still weep

Where I hide and shake and quail

This is my stake

This is the hammer and the nail

This is their creation

This is my story

This is what lies behind the veil

This is a survivor’s tale
