I Don’t Have a Penny

I don’t have a penny

I don’t have a dime

I don’t have a great big house

The marble floored kind

I don’t own designer labels

I don’t have anything Chanel

I don’t own a pair of Louboutin’s

Although I’m sure they’d rock my world

I don’t drive a brand new car

I don’t drive a Merc

In fact I don’t drive a car at all

Unless it’s already had a lot of work

I don’t take expensive vacations

I don’t stay in five star hotels

I don’t travel very often

Although I’d love to see the whole world

I didn’t go to Uni

I didn’t get a P. H. D.

I didn’t aim for lots of money

Or to be secure financially

I don’t want fame

I don’t want prestige

I don’t want a spotlight

I’m very content wearing beige

I don’t need approval

I don’t need applause

I don’t need recognition

To hold and stay true to my cause

For I have something solid

I have something real

I have something that’s forever

That no one can destroy or steal

I own a rare Treasure

I own a priceless Pearl

I own a wealth of Talents

Worth more than the whole entire world

I know a shining truth

I know the thoughts of God

I know the news that must be spread

And so with that my feet are shod

This world is an awful mess

This world is on fire

This world is ruled by a betrayer

A killer, and a liar

He offers shiny things

He offers things that appear to be fun

He offers things soon to perish

Things that fade, disappear and run

You can see his mind in the air

You can see the propaganda

You can see the all-pervasive filth

The fake, and the slander

This world is a testimony to his rule

This world has nothing of lasting gain

This world offers naught but heartache

Hard-heartedness and pain

But I know something important

I know the truth

I know this world will soon disappear

There’s a mountain of proof

Soon all the pain will be gone

And all hurts will be healed

All people will live as one

With all their dearest desires filled

The earth will be transformed

The earth will recover

The earth will be populated

With people that truly love one another

Meantime we must endure

We must find a way

We must keep seeking

Keep striving, to listen and obey

There is a secure anchor

There is a trusted guide

There is a guaranteed promise

He will always provide

Jehovah is my confidence

Jehovah is my friend

Jehovah is my shining hope

My towering refuge to the end

Now is the time to focus on the Kingdom’s work

Time to keep a simple eye

Now is the time to support our friends

As shoulder to shoulder we strive

We are proud to be his Witnesses

We are proud to sing his praise

We are proud to bear his name

As we proclaim his loving ways

This is his work

This is his creation

This is his will

To gather together people from every nation

So as we endure

As we obey

As we do the work

We must not listen to anything the world has to say

We listen to Jehovah

Listen to his faithful slave

Listen to his words

His words light the way

So we do our part

We do our best

We do our utmost

Always trusting that Jehovah will do the rest

Just wait

You will see

Just test him out

Jehovah will provide super-abundantly

You don’t need a penny

You don’t need a dime

You don’t need to worry

Jehovah will never, ever, leave you behind!

“Keep on, then, seeking first the Kingdom and his Righteousness,

and all these other things will be added to you.”

– Matthew 6:33

“May people know that you,

whose name is Jehovah,

You alone are the Most High

over all the earth.”

– Psalm 83:18

“Live simply that others might simply live.” – Elizabeth Ann Seton

“It’s not that successful people are givers; it is that givers are successful people.” – Patti Thor

“A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history”. – Mahatma Gandhi

“Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile.” – Wilfred Grenfell

“Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” – Joseph Addison

“Love the earth and sun and animals,

Despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks,

Stand up for the stupid and crazy,

Devote your income and labor to others.

And your very flesh shall be a great poem.”

– Walt Whitman

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy quote

“We ought to change the legend on our money from “In God We Trust” to “In Money We Trust.” Because, as a nation, we’ve got far more faith in money these days than we do in God.”

Arthur Hoppe, 1963

“Adornment is never anything except a reflection of the heart.”  – Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel

“Ordinary riches can be stolen; real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” – Oscar Wilde, The Soul of Man under Socialism, 1891

“Waste your money and you’re only out of money, but waste your time and you’ve lost a part of your life.” – Michael Leboeuf

“Your money, or your life.” We know what to do when a burglar makes this demand of us, but not when God does.  – Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic’s Notebook, 1966

“There are people who have money and people who are rich.” – Coco Chanel

“Money may be the husk of many things but not the kernel. It brings you food, but not appetite; medicine, but not health; acquaintance, but not friends; servants, but not loyalty; days of joy, but not peace or happiness. – Henrik Ibsen

Last Chorus Last Song

Tears and Memory

Last Chorus Last Song

I don’t know what I feel

I don’t know why I cry

I don’t know what these tears are for

When we already said goodbye

I don’t know what to think

I don’t know what to say

I didn’t see it coming

When we already went our own way

Is it the end of an era

Is it the beginning of the past

Is it the questions left unanswered

That make me feel this at last

Is it the memories that linger

Is it the feeling still there

Is it the smile in my heart

That finally lays it all bare

The heart is a funny thing

The heart fools and lies

The heart finds a way back

Even after all the goodbyes

The heart may still be weeping

The heart may still miss that face

The heart might still be wounded

Even when you’re in a truly happy place

So this is the final goodbye

So this is the final so long

So these are the last notes

The last chorus of the last song

A smile lingers as fall those last tears

A last chord plays and fades softly away

And a wish, a hope, goes out to the universe

It’s a brand new song, a brand new day

“Hate leaves ugly scars, love leaves beautiful ones”

– Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic’s Notebook, 1966

“True love stories never have endings”.

– Richard Bach

“The music may have stopped

but my heart beats to another tune,

this rhythm called love”

– A.C. Van Cherub

The Clanging Bell

The Clanging Bell

The Clanging Bell

There’s darkness in your heart tonight

You feel like giving up

You feel like giving in

You’ve forgotten why you’re struggling

Against the tide you’re in

You’ve been trying to hold on

But now all you want is to let go

Want not to have to care

For you know it really wouldn’t matter

If one day you just weren’t there

Everything is wrong

And you need to hide away

You need to disappear

Because you don’t know if you can take

Any more of the things

You’ve been forced to hear

You took all their torture

As they crushed your broken heart to pulp

But now enough is enough

You just don’t think you can bear anymore

You really aren’t that tough

One more stab from the past

One more day full of worry

One more nightmare all alone

You just can’t see anymore

Hope dies a little more

With everything you’re shown

Pain stabbing deep and hard

Throbbing numbly through your soul

There in lives heartache beyond all grief

And you know you can’t go on

You need to find some relief

They say that you’ll be fine

They tell you to keep your chin up

These things pass away in time

But what does that mean for right now?

It’s just a stupid line

They can’t understand what they can’t see

No one can see the darkness at night

Nor falling tears in the rain

That’s why they can’t fathom

The endless ocean of your pain

You thought you knew

You thought you understood

Then the picture changed

And everything you ever believed

Got all rearranged

When love is betrayed and all goodness turns to ash

You watch helplessly

As your safe world crashes and tears and rips

And everything you thought was still yours

Is blown away and disappears in tiny little bits

So take a life

And tear it up

Then sprinkle it with tears

And tell me when the nightmare ends

What grows from all your fears?

What if there is no end?

What if you can’t wake up?

What if the nightmare goes on and on?

What if there’s no way off

The horror merry-go-round you’re on?

Who will ease the gnawing ache?

Who will wake you up and hold you tight?

Who will put a stop to all the pain?

Who will take your hand and help you leap

From that careening run away train?

You know the answer

You know the truth

You know it well

All these years you thought you had love

But all you had was a clanging bell

Lying lips

Playing your heart three moves ahead

Words designed to deceive

You should have heard it coming

But you refused to believe

Friendships dissolved

Disappeared in a day

Melted away like snow in the rain

Not made of stuff that could survive

When the avalanche came

Hiding their own guilt

Behind facades of righteousness

Binding you in their bitter angry cords

As self-righteous hypocritical tongues

Turned into stabbing swords

You couldn’t look ahead

You didn’t know it would be like that

You had no idea

Left out in the cold and the rain

Left behind with your wounds and your fear

So there you stand in a place of mourning

Your tears watering the grass beneath your feet

As you place flowers beside a stone

And you’re alone

All alone

Sorrow wrapped in bewilderment

Truth making a mockery of memory

Memories making knowledge unbearable

Nothing hurts like the cold naked truth

If only hope lent you garments that were wearable

“Hope is the feeling we have

that the feeling we have

is not permanent”

– Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic’s Notebook

Lead Heart

Despair is anger lead heart

Lead Heart

Thunder rolling in the night
Crashing waves
And pouring rain
Emotions toss my little boat
And I can’t take the pain

Howling winds telling me
Of times and tides and nights
Tales hard to hear
Dredged from ocean depths
Sunken ships of yesteryear

My heart is heavy
It beats like lead
I can’t stand to fight
I need a guide to steer me
Through this endless night

For though I saw the rocks
Looming there ahead
They weren’t real
Until with jarring abruptness
They splintered up my keel

Memories dull
But hurt sharply stings
As it rolls around my brain
Long shadows cast
By the flashing lighthouse of my pain

Still resisting with tattered will
I’m bound and gagged
Held prisoner to fate
Shackled to a sinking ship
Cast free a little too late

Standing out on the deck
All around a storm tossed sea
I teeter on the brink
Knowing when I fall
This lead heart will help me sink

Then storm clouds part
As drifting like a dream
The moon sails free
Silvery path cast over dark waters
A gentle whisper calling to me

So take my heart
And melt it down
And finally set me free
For I won’t need it
To float atop the restless sea
