I Don’t Have a Penny

I don’t have a penny

I don’t have a dime

I don’t have a great big house

The marble floored kind

I don’t own designer labels

I don’t have anything Chanel

I don’t own a pair of Louboutin’s

Although I’m sure they’d rock my world

I don’t drive a brand new car

I don’t drive a Merc

In fact I don’t drive a car at all

Unless it’s already had a lot of work

I don’t take expensive vacations

I don’t stay in five star hotels

I don’t travel very often

Although I’d love to see the whole world

I didn’t go to Uni

I didn’t get a P. H. D.

I didn’t aim for lots of money

Or to be secure financially

I don’t want fame

I don’t want prestige

I don’t want a spotlight

I’m very content wearing beige

I don’t need approval

I don’t need applause

I don’t need recognition

To hold and stay true to my cause

For I have something solid

I have something real

I have something that’s forever

That no one can destroy or steal

I own a rare Treasure

I own a priceless Pearl

I own a wealth of Talents

Worth more than the whole entire world

I know a shining truth

I know the thoughts of God

I know the news that must be spread

And so with that my feet are shod

This world is an awful mess

This world is on fire

This world is ruled by a betrayer

A killer, and a liar

He offers shiny things

He offers things that appear to be fun

He offers things soon to perish

Things that fade, disappear and run

You can see his mind in the air

You can see the propaganda

You can see the all-pervasive filth

The fake, and the slander

This world is a testimony to his rule

This world has nothing of lasting gain

This world offers naught but heartache

Hard-heartedness and pain

But I know something important

I know the truth

I know this world will soon disappear

There’s a mountain of proof

Soon all the pain will be gone

And all hurts will be healed

All people will live as one

With all their dearest desires filled

The earth will be transformed

The earth will recover

The earth will be populated

With people that truly love one another

Meantime we must endure

We must find a way

We must keep seeking

Keep striving, to listen and obey

There is a secure anchor

There is a trusted guide

There is a guaranteed promise

He will always provide

Jehovah is my confidence

Jehovah is my friend

Jehovah is my shining hope

My towering refuge to the end

Now is the time to focus on the Kingdom’s work

Time to keep a simple eye

Now is the time to support our friends

As shoulder to shoulder we strive

We are proud to be his Witnesses

We are proud to sing his praise

We are proud to bear his name

As we proclaim his loving ways

This is his work

This is his creation

This is his will

To gather together people from every nation

So as we endure

As we obey

As we do the work

We must not listen to anything the world has to say

We listen to Jehovah

Listen to his faithful slave

Listen to his words

His words light the way

So we do our part

We do our best

We do our utmost

Always trusting that Jehovah will do the rest

Just wait

You will see

Just test him out

Jehovah will provide super-abundantly

You don’t need a penny

You don’t need a dime

You don’t need to worry

Jehovah will never, ever, leave you behind!

“Keep on, then, seeking first the Kingdom and his Righteousness,

and all these other things will be added to you.”

– Matthew 6:33

“May people know that you,

whose name is Jehovah,

You alone are the Most High

over all the earth.”

– Psalm 83:18

“Live simply that others might simply live.” – Elizabeth Ann Seton

“It’s not that successful people are givers; it is that givers are successful people.” – Patti Thor

“A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history”. – Mahatma Gandhi

“Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile.” – Wilfred Grenfell

“Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” – Joseph Addison

“Love the earth and sun and animals,

Despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks,

Stand up for the stupid and crazy,

Devote your income and labor to others.

And your very flesh shall be a great poem.”

– Walt Whitman

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy quote

“We ought to change the legend on our money from “In God We Trust” to “In Money We Trust.” Because, as a nation, we’ve got far more faith in money these days than we do in God.”

Arthur Hoppe, 1963

“Adornment is never anything except a reflection of the heart.”  – Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel

“Ordinary riches can be stolen; real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” – Oscar Wilde, The Soul of Man under Socialism, 1891

“Waste your money and you’re only out of money, but waste your time and you’ve lost a part of your life.” – Michael Leboeuf

“Your money, or your life.” We know what to do when a burglar makes this demand of us, but not when God does.  – Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic’s Notebook, 1966

“There are people who have money and people who are rich.” – Coco Chanel

“Money may be the husk of many things but not the kernel. It brings you food, but not appetite; medicine, but not health; acquaintance, but not friends; servants, but not loyalty; days of joy, but not peace or happiness. – Henrik Ibsen

Courage of Life - JFK

I was searching

Long and lonely along rocky paths

Paths that led to you

And you have proved by trial of fire

That there has never been

A gallant knight more worthy or more true

I was low

But you pulled me through

You helped me smile again

You seemed to know

Just what to say

To banish my deepest darkest pain

I was besieged

There was no way out

But pulling Excalibur from that rock

You won through to free a heart in chains

You heeded no bar

Nor any rusted broken lock

I was despairing

In the dark of endless night

But you made the sun stand still and shine

You took on every dangerous quest

Endlessly patient

So gallant and so kind

I was locked

In a strong tower high

But you enchanted the dragon guard

And razed the tower to the ground

You let nothing stop you

No matter the cost or how hard

I was distressed

But you rescued me

And killed all this damsels demons dead

You shone light in shadowed places

And helped me see that there was nothing

Hiding underneath my gothic bed

I was lost

But you led the way through briar and thorn

Through hard wood and pine

And as you took my hand

You took my heart

And I knew you were mine

I was alone

But you took me up

And carried me far away

You took me home

And in your kingdom of dreams

You gave love a place to stay

I was blessed

To know a hero like you

A man of gallantry, so worthy and so true

A knight errant

In spirit if not in truth

And so this damsel will always love you

You said there was no interest

Although your actions said you did

But instead of owning it

You ran and hid

You said you had no intentions

And maybe that was true

I had no intentions either

Just feelings that you grew

You couldn’t meet my eyes

As the truth went up in flame

And though you knew your part

You let me take all the blame

Liar, liar

When are you gonna see

You can try to hide from it

But it’s the truth that sets you free

You were playing with my heart

While you were singing with the choir

But in that instant I saw you

Saw through to the liar

You think I didn’t know

Didn’t feel the truth?

I have your unguarded words

Words of proof

Giving me your time

When no one else could see

Giving me the feeling

Your feelings were only for me

Liar, liar

When are you gonna see?

You might not understand it

But it’s the truth that sets you free

Something was alive

Whenever we met

Something was whispering

Something hard to forget

Electricity in the air

Felt it crackling there

So I named that feeling

Laid it open, laid it bare

There is no shame in speaking

In feeling something true

The things left unspoken

Are the things you come to rue

Liar, liar

When are you gonna see

You can deny it

But it’s the truth that sets you free

When I finally saw the truth

Hiding there behind your lies

I saw the end

So I said my goodbyes

I joined in your lie

I let you go

Let it all get taken

By gossips undertow

I acted the part

You gave me to play

Watching from above

As love became foam atop a tidal wave

Liar, liar

When are you gonna see

You can try to run

But it’s the truth that sets you free

They all think you’re perfect

Think you’re the ‘it’ guy

They put you on some pedestal

Away, way up high

But you aren’t that person

I’ve seen you lie

But that’s the thing with love

It has a truthful eye

Love sees strength and weakness

It sees what’s real

But it hopes and restores

It forgives and heals

Liar, liar

When are you gonna see

You might not believe it

But it’s the truth that sets you free

One day you’ll become

More than you are today

One day you’ll have the courage

To say all the words you want to say

You won’t let others dictate

Or write out your lines

You won’t let fear bind you

Keep you locked in its confines

But right now you’re a liar

And I am not a fool

So I’m letting the lie be the truth

I’m letting the truth be the rule

Liar, liar

When are you gonna see

Though it might hurt for a while

It’s the truth that sets you free

“We tell lies when we are afraid…

afraid of what we don’t know,

afraid of what others will think,

afraid of what will be found out about us.

But every time we tell a lie,

the thing that we fear grows stronger”

– Tad Williams

“A lie will easily get you out of a scrape,

And yet, strangely and beautifully,

Rapture possesses you

When you have taken the scrape

And left out the lie”

– Charles Edward Montague, Disenchantment

The Right Thing

The Right Thing

It’s hard to see you kill yourself a little more every day

It’s hard to know you’re throwing what’s left of your life away

You’ve forced me to speak all the words that you should say

So now I’m the one who’s paying the price for what you gave away

Take a good hard look in the mirror and you will see

The person you’ve made yourself turn out to be

It’s neither right nor fair that you try to shift the blame to me

It’s time you stood up like a man and take what has to be

You made the choice, you walked willingly down that road

You lied and you slunk, and now you’re reaping what you’ve sowed

I left you your dignity knowing how much you would lose

Not because I had to, but because it’s what I choose

I’m not some fickle gossip, so I haven’t spread what you did to me around

But in this I’m by law, by God, and by conscience bound

You can’t fool me into thinking I betrayed you

It’s you who betrayed yourself, and me, and everyone else too

I’ve taken it all – everything you dealt – and never hated you

But unless you do the right thing now, I may begin to

I’m not taking your cunning and your deceit anymore

I left all that behind me when I walked out the door

You cannot change the truth, not matter how loud you shout

You cannot make people believe what is no longer in doubt

You are already imprisoned – a prison of your own making

You’re locked away, eaten alive, while your conscience its pound of flesh is taking

There is only one route to freedom, only one route to do away with fear

There is only one route to regain self-respect, however thin, however sheer

Say those words, say them out loud

Take responsibility – there is no room to be proud

It’s time for you to face the truth if you ever want to be free

It’s time for you to stop fooling yourself and face reality

If you do the right thing, if you take it, if you let it be

Maybe you can still find that man, that man I thought I knew, the man I used to see

When It’s You

when its you

When It’s You

It’s easy to sit in judgment

To say this is what should’ve been done that day

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to take someone’s life away

It’s easy to act the pharisee when your closet is all neatly locked

When no one sees what you’ve hidden there

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Whose dirty laundry is drying in the open air

It’s easy to feel disgust and hurt

To be angry and outraged all the way

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to say love has forever gone away

It’s easy to condemn and vilify

When you have dislike already in the same

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who can see another side to the pain

It’s easy to be all up in arms

To say the way it all should go

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to lay somebody low

It’s easy to see the bitter truth

To know which direction is absolutely right

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to walk a tangled path on a moonless night

It’s easy to see in black and white

To know what everyone should think and say

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to wade through waves of pounding grey

It’s easy to say how you would’ve been

That you would never have acted as another has done

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who is handed the still exploding smoking gun

It’s easy to tell another it will be all right

To instruct them to stand and walk again

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to go on living with the pain

It’s easy to smile and say placating words

To pat a back and then walk away

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to face the fear day to day

It easy to say that time heals all wounds

That one day these things will be a memory too distant to recall

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who has to start from scratch and rebuild it all

You might think you can walk in another’s shoes

You might even have a similar tread

But it’s not so easy when it’s you

Who is the ant trying to see over the elephants head

So don’t sit in judgment or say what should be done

Until you’ve walked a mile in those shoes

Because it’s not so easy when it’s you

Whose life is being weighed by someone else’s ignorant views

“Against criticism a man can neither

Protest nor defend himself;

He must act in spite of it,

And then it will gradually yield to him.”

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

So done with this

Time to walk away

Not worth the trouble

Ain’t worth the pain

Got places to go

Elsewhere to be

Waiting ain’t the thing

Time to run free

Forget this slow crawl

Take that fast train

Waiting won’t work it

Gotta fly that plane

Sing into cold silence

Fill emptiness with sound

Dance through still rooms

Ain’t worth hanging around

Chance given to fly

Just gotta take it

Don’t doubt or blink

Just can’t fake it

Suspended above the void

Gotta break that chain

Take that cosmic leap

Go against the grain

Rocket to the moon

Touch the suns face

Fly to the stars

Trip through outta space

Don’t need a leash

Get going get gone

Not time to hesitate

Time to move on
